Mobile resource management, or MRM, pertains to tracking and managing a wide range of mobile resources. In the trucking business, these are usually very large (Class 8), commercial vehicles used for hauling freight. On construction and mining project sites, such mobile resources can include heavy equipment (sometimes called "black iron" or "dirt steel") and other dangerous equipment. All MRM solutions must account for weather and environmental considerations, which often pose significant challenges. With traditional dispatching, MRM solutions gather management information through the vehicle's computer systems and then send it to the operations center where it is stored in real-time. The use of MRM solutions is most often seen in the trucking and transportation industries.
